Are slips, trips and falls are a problem in your area?
You may have heard on the local media recently that the HSE are promoting their “Shattered Lives” campaign to reduce the amount of accidents resulting from slips, trips and falls.
Simple changes can make a big difference. Please consider how you can:
Keep your work area free from trip hazards such as papers & files on the floor, spillages etc
Make sure you do not to rush around so that you don’t see hazards
Be alert for any problems and remove or report them
Ensure you are wearing appropriate footwear

Slips and trips are the most common cause of major injuries at work and can happen almost anywhere.
95% of major slips result in broken bones and they can also be the initial cause for a range of other types of accident such as a fall from height.
Slips and trips are responsible for, on average:-
20% of over-3-day injuries to employees
over a third of all reported major injuries
2 fatalities per year
50% of all reported accidents to members of the public that happen in workplaces
Cost to employers of £512 million per year (lost production and other costs)
Cost to health service of £133 million per year
